Nose piercings are the second most popular piercing type after ear piercing. One can find the evidence of nose piercings existance even in Bible, at all times this kind of body puncturing was used in order to accent beauty. There are three basic types of nose piercing: nostril, nasal septum and bridge piercing.
Nostril piercing came to us from India. Indian women punctured their noses not just for one reason which is to demonstrate their beauty but also due to the fact that piercing the outer left nostril helped to make the process of childbirth easier. Former traditions of nostril piercing are still kept in such countries as Bangladesh, Pakistan and of course India. In European countries, USA, Canada and other countries there is a tendency to pierce not only left but also right side of the nostril, more over double multiple piercings are very popular nowadays. This type of nose piercing is the less painful in comparison with nasal septum and bridge piercing and healing period is much shorter.
Nasal septum piercing means making piercing of nasal septum (the cartilage which divides two nostrils), however you should know that the cartilage itself is not punctured. Nasal septum piercing presupposes puncturing of the small space of skin between the very bottom of the nose and cartilage. Nasal septum is not pierced as far as there are two many nerve endings which can be touched and this can cause unbearable pain but still it is said that it greatly depends on personal reaction of organism. Before making this type of piercing, you should remember that healing period can be much longer that you expect.
Bridge piercingis made through piece of skin at the very top of the nose between the eyes. So called nose bridge can be punctured in two ways horizontally and vertically. This is rather dangerous piercing and you are to be attentive and accurate during the healing period and keep to all piercing care recommendations!
Nose piercing procedure and aftercare
In case you decided to adorn your body with nose piercing, you should know that this has to be done with a medical needle in no circumstances with a piercing gun as far as it can cause various damages and noticeably prolong the healing process. Use a ring instead of stud at least for a healing period as far as it reduces the possibility of infection. Carefully clean the punctured area only with recommended antibacterial cleanser till it's healed. Don't move and play with your jewelry at least for first 7 days. Accuracy of your nose piercing will depend much on the way you treat it during the aftercare period. |
